Alumni Social Action Projects
Two Bishop Ahr graduates who now attend Rutgers University recently presented their social action projects, the results of months of efforts, at an event sponsored by Rutgers’ Institute for Women’s Leadership.
Justine Del Gaudio, Class of 2006, and Melissa Chedid, Class of 2007, were among the young women who presented their projects, the culmination of a two-year Leadership Scholars Certificate Program that prepares students to be informed, innovative and socially responsible leaders.
Del Gaudio conducted an interview with former New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman, which she then edited to create a documentary that focuses on women’s leadership for social change.
Chedid worked closely with Mexican immigrants who are parishioners of Sacred Heart Church in New Brunswick, initiating a series of classes to create a safe space for the women and men of Sacred Heart.
Associate Principal Harry Ziegler, who attended the program, said he was inspired by the depth and commitment of the young women’s projects.“Both Justine and Melissa, as well as the other participants in this impressive program, are excellent examples of self-empowered young women who will serve as positive agents of social change in the future,” Ziegler said. “We are very proud of both Justine and Melissa; they are a credit to the Bishop Ahr community.”
