Chinese New Year Lesson and Celebration
With Chinese now being offered as a foreign language, students were introduced to the culture of China when they brought in the Chinese New Year on February 14. Each year is represented by one of the 12 zodiac animals and posses qualities for those born that year. For example, this is the year of the tiger and those born this year are sensitive deep thinkers and have a fighting spirit. Room 119 was decorated with festive decorations from the culture including scary door posters meant to ward off evil spirits and bring good luck.
Mr. Liang, BGA's Chinese teacher put up a colorful presentation on the bulletin board to briefly introduce the different customs of the Chinese New Year celebration. He also decorated the room with some authentic festival decoration that his mom sent him from China. He included a corner full of New Year wishes written in Chinese characters with English translations and pronunciation. With this, students were able to design new year greeting cards in Chinese characters and impress their friends wish their cultural knowledge!
All BGA classes were invited in for a tour, and Mr. Liang was happy to present the materials to all BGA students.
