Important Return-to-School Information
Posted on 08/31/2021

Dear Parents/Guardians:

We are looking forward to the upcoming school year and reuniting with our students and faculty. We are committed to reopening St. Thomas Aquinas High School on a full-time, regular schedule, providing students with the academic, extracurricular, and spiritual opportunities that contribute to a rewarding educational experience. Thankfully, our school building is exceptionally large and allows us to comfortably educate our students while allowing for social distancing.

To review our 2021-22 Return to School plan in detail, please visit the following link:

Please also review these early reminders, newsworthy items, and expectations of you and your child for the upcoming school year 2021-2022. I encourage you to familiarize yourself with all school policies & procedures (website under Student Life | Student Handbook) to ensure a smooth transition into the new school year.

Uniforms - All students are expected to be in school uniform beginning Orientation Day. Order forms for uniforms are available in the Main Office. All uniform clothes are to be purchased from Flynn & O’Hara Uniform Company only. No exceptions or substitutes will be permitted. Students were reminded to check their uniforms for the upcoming school year. For girls: the length of their skirt should be three inches above the knee or longer. For boys: the pants should have the correct fit and be worn at the waist. All boys are required to be in black pants. Girls once again will be able to purchase black slacks. Uniforms will be checked on an ongoing basis. If the uniform does not meet our dress code requirements, uniforms must be exchanged or purchased for the correct size at the parent’s expense. The administration reserves the right to make the final decision regarding the appropriateness of a student’s attire.

If a student has not yet received his or her gym uniform, he or she may wear the regulation gym sweatpants and gym shirt until the uniform arrives.
Shoes - SOLID brown or black closed heel and toe shoes must be worn. No Exceptions.

Physical Education Uniforms - Physical Education uniforms are worn by all students during gym class and may be purchased only through the bookstore. Sneakers and white socks must be worn as part of the uniform.

Updated Summer Reading List - All students will be tested on the required summer reading during the first month of school. The Summer Reading list is included in the school Newsletter.

Physicals - Physical forms were due by August 1, 2021. If you have not turned in your form, please submit as soon as possible.  Forms are available by going to the STA website under “Parents | Medical Forms” or under “Athletics | Handbook & Forms”. In addition, any student who was vaccinated for COVID should provide proof to the nurse.

Cell Phones - Students may carry their cell phones, in the “off” position, during the school day. However, cell phones may only be used during lunch period or at the direction of their teacher.

Backpacks- Students will be allowed to carry backpacks during the school day.

Students are expected to arrive in school with their own face covering. Face coverings will be required throughout the school day. Students will not be permitted to board a school bus without a face covering.

Food service will be provided by RPM Food Services during lunch periods. Purchases will be made on a cash-only basis.

Each class will have its own orientation day (see school calendar). On orientation day, students will be expected to wear their school uniform. Busing will be available and there will be a 12-noon dismissal. Those students who are bused are asked to utilize busing so that they may familiarize themselves with the process. This will also be an opportunity to test the busing service.

If a student has traveled outside of the country, he or she must be tested for COVID upon return.

All Parents/Guardians looking to fulfill service obligations, the following opportunities are available:
Afterschool Cafeteria Proctors – Monday through Friday, 2:15 – 6:00 p.m. Please select one day you will consistently be available each week. Proctors must be fingerprinted and have taken a three-hour course in “Protecting God’s Children.”
